Some around the league feel that Juan Castillo might have done enough over the last 3 games to save his job as Eagles Defensive Coordinator.

According to a recent report, that is not the case.

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union Tribune reports that the St. Louis Rams are expected to fire Spagnuolo as head coach and bring on John Gruden in to take over.

Where would Spagnuolo end up? Right back where he started according to Acee. Acee says it is "all but certain" that Spagnuolo would then come to Philadelphia and be the Eagles defensive coordinator.

Spganuolo coached with the Eagles from 1999-2006, where he coached on the defensive side of the ball. He then went to New York and took over as DC there, where his defense led the Giants to the Super Bowl.

If the report is true, it means that Castillo's days are numbered, and it also means that Andy Reid will be back as head coach. Could Spags come in to help Castillo under a different title, and allow Castillo to remain defensive coordinator? Would Castillo remain on the staff if Spagnuolo were to take over play calling duties on the defense? What happens to Jim Washburn and his Wide 9 Technique?

If Spags becomes DC, all of those questions would have to be answered.

But one thing is certain: that for as well as Castillo's unit has played over the past 3 weeks, Spags would represent a significant upgrade. He would immediately be one of the best DC's in the league, if not the best.

If the move is made, it would likely be made soon. The Eagles got ride of Sean McDermott last season before the NFL season was even over, and after going through an off-season where Castillo could not work with his players, you would think the Eagles would want Spags to get started as soon as possible.

Only time will tell if the report is true.
