Wide receiver Roy Williams will be in Houston on Thursday for a tryout with the Texans, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Wednesday. Williams, a nine-year veteran, caught 37 passes for 507 yards last season for the Chicago Bears. He has 393 catches in his career for 5,715 yards and 44 touchdowns. The Texans have little depth at wide receiver. Beyond starters Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter, no Texas receivers have caught a pass in the league.

Roy Williams Tryout With the Texans is a Joke, Right? Perhaps Not.

Oh, what having limited cap space can do to a team. When the Texans released Jacoby Jones a couple of months ago, fans in Houston rejoiced. Many, because of his comedy of errors in the team’s playoff game in Baltimore. But for others, such as myself, because we had been hearing about Jones’ “potential” for five seasons. After the fourth, it was pretty clear he was never...

Houston Texans Ink G Brandon Brooks, Final Unsigned Rookie

Shortly after draft mate WR DeVier Posey signed with the Houston Texans last night, the team finally wrapped up rookie contract negotiations by coming to terms with third round offensive guard Brandon Brooks. Similar to Posey, Brooks signed a four-year deal worth $2.8 million that includes a signing bonus of just over $617K, as was first reported by Mark Berman of Fox 26. Brooks’...

Bears place WR Knox on PUP list

The Chicago Bears have put receiver Johnny Knox on the physically unable to perform list. The move announced Wednesday was not a surprise, since general manager Phil Emery had said it might happen. Knox suffered a gruesome back injury against Seattle last season and needed surgery to stabilize a vertebra. Knox has 133 receptions for 2,214 yards in three seasons and has been a contributor...

Chicago Bears trade for DT Brian Price

A weakness has become a strength once again as the Bears have traded a late round draft pick to the Tampa Bay Bucs for defensive tackle Brian Price. Price immediately becomes the likely replacement for Amobi Okoye who coincidentally left the Bears in free agency to join Tampa.  Okoye's signing left the Bucs with an overload of DTs and it seemed to make sense to land Price in...

Texans add veteran WR Johnson

The Texans agreed to a one-year contract with wide receiver Bryant Johnson, who'll add needed veteran depth in his second season with the franchise. Johnson, 31, played in all 16 games, mostly on special teams, for the Texans in 2011. He was an unrestricted free agent but went unsigned through the offseason. Johnson, a first-round pick in 2003 out of Penn State, has the speed...

Bears acquire DT Price from Bucs

Defensive tackle Brian Price was acquired by the Bears, who sent an undisclosed 2013 draft pick to Tampa Bay. Price was a second-round pick out of UCLA in 2010, and started 14 of the 20 games he has appeared in. However, Price has also struggled with leg injuries and was involved in a fight with Bucs rookie safety Mark Barron in a team meeting room in June. Price is coming off...

Weems ready to serve many roles

Eric Weems is currently fourth on the WR depth chart and should prove a strong complement to Devin Hester in the return game. Bear Report goes one-on-one with the new Bears wideout.

With new pieces in place, focus centers on Cutler

Like a kid eyeing his presents, Jay Cutler could hardly contain his excitement. The Chicago Bears made some big changes, and for a guy who grew up in Santa Claus, Ind., the offseason was like one big Christmas celebration. Now, expectations are soaring, and the spotlight is shining brighter than ever on the man behind center. Cutler is ready to rip off the wrapping paper. '...
