EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. The Minnesota Vikings have reportedly finally added a piece to their beleaguered and undermanned secondary.
Multiple reports say Minnesota has signed cornerback Zackary Bowman on Monday to a one-year, minimum-salary deal with no guaranteed money. Bowman, 27, played all 16 games last season for the Chicago Bears, starting once, and had 15 tackles. A fifth-round draft pick by Chicago in 2008 out of Nebraska, Bowman's best season came in 2009 when he started 12 of his 16 games and had 66 tackles, six interceptions and 10 pass deflections.
Coming from the Bears, Bowman is well-versed in the Cover-2 style preferred by Vikings coach Leslie Frazier.
After choosing to go through the first two weeks of free agency without a major signing at cornerback, Minnesota could look to also build the position through the draft. The Vikings cut Cedric Griffin three days before free agency stared. Antoine Winfield, coming off a season-ending injury, and Chris Cook, who was acquitted of domestic abuse charges, are seen as the starters.
Asher Allen, Brandon Burton and Marcus Sherels were the only cornerbacks on the active roster at the end of last season that are still with the team.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has already gutted the Saints of much of their key leadership for the 2012 season, banishing HC Sean Payton for the duration, GM Mickey Loomis for half of it and assistant coach Joe Vitt for six games, in the wake of the league’s investigation into the team’s bounty program.
However Goodell has, to this point, refrained from punishing any of the...
Numerous NFL clubs have been extremely active during this 2012 NFL Free Agency frenzy.
Other cap-strapped quality and upper-echelon teams have inevitably been virtually silent. However, the Minnesota Vikings, like a handful of other teams in transition with plenty of cap room, haven’t made many moves.

At the end of last month, we brought up the possibility that the Minnesota Vikings could end up trading the third overall pick in April’s draft.
According to Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com, it seems that the Vikings are still open to giving up the third pick if a team like the Miami Dolphins is desperate to jump ahead of the Cleveland Browns, in order to take quarterback Ryan Tannehill...
Two weeks into free agency, followers of the Minnesota Vikings have questioned new general manager Rick Spielman's relative inactivity coming off of last season's 3-13 record.
The moves included re-signing several players from last year, adding a tight end and offensive lineman who both missed all of last season and bringing in two fullbacks. Yet perhaps the one move that...
Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune reported exclusively today that Chicago Bears wide receiver Johnny Knox is going to start the season on the physically unable to perform list (PUP list). That means Knox will miss at a minimum the first six games of the season.
Further pushing back Knox's chances for missing the season is the revelation that his injury is a bit worse than...
Obviously Peyton Manning felt he had unfinished business. Among the items on his to-do list are some records currently held by Brett Favre and Dan Marino. Weller Ross takes a look at those records and finds that Manning may find himself at the top of the charts sooner rather than later:
So similarly to completions, Peyton should catch Marino this year, and despite being 109 behind...
Former Chicago Bears' cornerback Zack Bowman will spend his fifth NFL season with a division rival. Bowman, 27, has signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings.
Bowman was drafted in 2008 and spent his first four years in Chicago. He was a starter, but lost his job in 2010 and has played little since then. His best NFL season came in 2009 when he made six interceptions...
New Bears receiver Brandon Marshall details his lifelong struggle to control his personality disorder. We also discuss backup QB Jason Campbell's recovery from a fractured collarbone.
The Vikings have signed a number of blockers in free agency, but they have yet to add a speedy running back in reserve if Adrian Peterson isn’t ready to go. That could happen in the draft.

A documentary film about the most turbulent years of Brett Favre – Last Day at Lambeau – is scheduled to debut next month. It covers an era from Favre’s last pass as a Packer to his last one at Lambeau Field as a member of the Vikings.
After undergoing surgery to stabilize a vertebra in his back as a result of a violent collision in a December regular season game against the Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears WR Johnny Knox is hoping to return to the field in 2012. On Monday, it was reported that Knox will likely start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list for the Bears.
