EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. Former Minnesota Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe has finally found a new team two days before training camp begins.Multiple reports say Shiancoe, 32, signed with the New England Patriots on Tuesday after a five-year run with Minnesota that included 208 catches and 24 touchdowns. Shiancoe, who had 36 catches for 409 yards last season with the Vikings, agreed to a one-year, 1.2 million contract with New England, according to a report on NFL.com, and could earn as much as 2 million a source told NFL Network's Steve Wyche.Shiancoe had worked out for the Philadelphia Eagles Tuesday morning and was reportedly deciding between Philadelphia and the Patriots.A nine-year veteran, Shiancoe was an unrestricted free agent this offseason and Minnesota chose to move on from the aging tight end, instead going younger with second-year draftee Kyle Rudolph and 28-year-old John Carlson, who the team signed to a five-year, 25 million deal from the Seattle Seahawks.Shiancoe was signed as a free agent from the New York Giants in 2007 by the Vikings, becoming a full-time player for the first time in his career. His best season came in 2009 with quarterback Brett Favre coming to Minnesota when Shiancoe had 56 catches for 566 yards and 11 touchdowns.A former third-round pick by New York, Shiancoe goes from one team in Minnesota that intended to use the tight ends heavily to another that has perfected the two tight-end system in New England. The Patriots feature Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez heavily and have also have added Jake Ballard from the Giants and Daniel Fells from the Denver Broncos in the offseason. Ballard and Fells are starting the season on the physically unable to perform list and New England also has rookie Tyler Urban. The Patriots open training camp on Thursday, July 26.

The Patriots are getting set to kickoff training camp this week, and it looks like they'll have some added depth at the tight end position down at Gillette Stadium. Visanthe Shiancoe signed a one-year deal to join the Patriots on Tuesday afternoon, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports. The contract is reportedly worth up to $1.2 million with $400,000 in guaranteed money....
Adding Visanthe Shiancoe doesn't scream "Super Bowl." But when taken for what it is -- a depth move -- his reported signing makes plenty of sense for the Patriots. The reported one-year deal is hardly a move of necessity. With Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez already in the mix, you could essentially toss in any old body and you'd still be left with the best tight...

Current Philadelphia Eagles tight end Brent Celek is beloved amongst fans and rightfully so. Celek is one of the best—though underrated—tight ends in the NFL. He is also among the best tight ends in Eagles history and, in 2011, quietly ranked alongside Pro Bowl tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham.

They aren't big moves, the kind of Randy Moss-to-New England blockblusters that make other teams cringe. But they're very much Patriot moves. With New England scooping up veteran tight end Visanthe Shiancoe, nabbing injured tight end Jake Ballard from the New York Giants' waiver ploy, bringing in a stash of role player receivers and cutting former big name running back...
Last week, the New England Patriots worked out veteran tight end Visanthe Shiancoe. On Tuesday, the team signed him to a one-year contract. The Patriots also added former Denver Broncos TE Daniel Fells earlier in the offseason to go along with Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. Jason Cole reported the signing via Twitter. Early reports suggest that the one-year deal is worth $400...
The Eagles continue to shop for veteran tight end help but might delay a meeting with former Panthers tight end Jeremy Shockey initially scheduled for Wednesday. Shockey turns 32 in August and for the first time in 10 NFL seasons caught fewer than 40 passes last season in Carolina, where he split time with Greg Olsen. Shockey would be a second option behind Brent Celek, who caught...
