New York Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas underwent his third anterior-cruciate ligament surgery in seven years this week, multiple media outlets reported Thursday. Thomas, 27, first injured his ACL while at USC, and he missed the 2011 season with a torn ACL. He reinjured it during training camp this year. Thomas tried to rehabilitate it without surgery, and he was put on season-ending injured reserve during final cuts in August. He had surgery on Tuesday to repair a partial tear of the ACL, according to the Newark Star-Ledger, which first reported the surgery. The recovery time is typically at least six months. The Giants re-signed Thomas to a four-year, $28 million contract just before he would have become a free agent this past offseason. However, most of that money is contingent upon the team picking up the option next spring, according to the Star-Ledger. Thomas started all 16 games in 2009 and again in 2010, but has not played since.
