According to several published reports this afternoon, the New England Patriots have signed WR Matthew Slater to a new contract.  Terms at this time are not available. Slater was the Patriots special teams captain and led the squad in tackles and earned his first Pro Bowl selection.  He also saw some time at wide receiver and is expected to compete for spot as New England’s deep threat option on the outside. Slater, the son of Football Hall of Fame member Jackie Slater, has played with the Patriots the last four seasons after having played his college ball at UCLA. Andre Carter, Deion Branch Among 17 Patriots to Hit Unrestricted Free Agency

Seventeen Patriots became unrestricted free agents at 4 p.m. Tuesday, when the NFL's new league year began. The Patriots had until that time to exclusively negotiate with their crop of free agents, but now they're open to sign anywhere else. The Patriots' list of free agents includes defensive end Mark Anderson, wide receiver Deion Branch, defensive end Andre Carter,...

Greg Bedard reports that the Pats have come to terms with Dan Connolly, and also speculates that it likely means the end of the line for Dan Koppen in New England, which is the end of era. We all took for granted how seamlessly Connolly replaced Koppen this year at center, which is no easy task. Clearly the Patriots like what he did and perhaps see a long term future for him there...

Report: Dan Connolly Re-Signs With Patriots, Who Choose Familiar Face

There are a handful of really good centers on the free-agent market, but the Patriots opted for a familiar face who has been a valued offensive lineman in New England for five seasons. Dan Connolly re-signed Thursday with the Patriots, according to the Boston Globe. Connolly has been with the Patriots since 2007, but his greatest contributions have come in the last two seasons. He...

Source: Brian Hoyer Will Explore Opportunities for Starting Quarterback Job As Restricted Free Agent

By extending a second-round tender to quarterback Brian Hoyer on Tuesday, the Patriots appeared to be giving him an honest opportunity to find a starting job somewhere else this offseason. As it turns out, Hoyer will take them up on that offer. Hoyer, a restricted free agent, will explore his opportunities to become a starting quarterback around the league, according to a source...

Brandon Lloyd Could Highlight Patriots' Second Day of Free Agency After Quiet Opener

Whether it was planned or not, the Patriots got off to a slow start to free agency Tuesday, when desperate teams like the Redskins, Bills, Buccaneers and Rams doled out stole the headlines with high-profile courtships and over-the-top contracts. The thing is, this is how Patriots head coach Bill Belichick typically handles his business. The broad, cautious approach has always worked...

The Newest Patriot - Jonathan Fanene - DL (by PatriotsRazorDotCom) Wow I sure do like the looks of this guy! Without Myron Pryor and Mike Wright last year the Pats lacked any real interior pass rush threat and it looks like Fanene will give them some of that presence back.
