Rookie quarterback Russell Wilson appears set to start the Seahawks' third preseason game against Kansas City on Friday night, according to multiple reports.

Matt Flynn has started and played the first half of Seattle's first two preseason games, with Wilson playing the bulk of the second half.

The third preseason game is typically when teams do their most game-planning and the starters play into the second half before a token appearance in the preseason finale. But the Seahawks' coaching staff appears set to give Wilson, a third-round pick out of Wisconsin, time with the first team against the Chiefs before ultimately deciding who the Week 1 starter against Arizona will be.

Flynn has completed 65.4 percent of his passes with no touchdowns and one interception during the preseason. He is averaging a meager 3.9 yards per attempt, although last week it was clear offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell was trying to get newly-signed wide receiver Terrell Owens involved in the offense. Owens dropped one of the few downfield passes Flynn attempted.

Wilson has completed 66.7 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and one interception. He has been sacked one time to Flynn's three, and has shown the ability to stretch the field. Wilson is also averaging 11.5 yards on eight carries. Should he start against the Chiefs on Friday, Wilson will have an opportunity to prove his strong preseason to date hasn't simply been a byproduct of playing against second-team defenses.

The Seahawks' leading receiver during the preseason is rookie running back Robert Turbin with five receptions. The leading wideout is Braylon Edwards, who has a mere two catches for 51 yards - including a 39-yard touchdown from Wilson in the preseason opener. Seahawks wideouts have accounted for just nine receptions in two games.

Tarvaris Jackson, the incumbent starter, has not played during the preseason as the team reportedly attempts to trade him before ultimately releasing the veteran. Jackson opened the offseason program working with the first team offense, and even received first team reps in practice as recently as last week.
