Rex Ryan put a quick end to a budding controversy. The New York Jets coach addressed his players during a meeting Wednesday, reminding them to consider what they say in the wake of cornerback Antonio Cromartie's remarks that he'd rank himself the second-best wide receiver on the team. Wide receiver Chaz Schilens said Wednesday he felt the comment was a ''slight'' to the players at his position. He backtracked Thursday, saying he cleared the air with Cromartie. ''Antonio Cromartie is a hell of an athlete,'' Schilens said with a smile. ''He could play wide receiver anytime he wants to.'' Schilens also spoke individually with Ryan, who thought Cromartie's comments were mostly a joke and recognized that Schilens didn't take them as they might have been intended.

Antonio Cromartie says he's the second best receiver on the Jets

Getty Images With the Jets planning on having a special offensive package for cornerback Antonio Cromartie on offense, he told ESPN’s First Take via ProFootballTalk.com that he’s the second best receiver on the New York Jets. “I think I’d put myself as second,” Cromartie said. “I haven’t really played it in the past four or five years, but I can put myself as the...

Jets' Cromartie stands by 'No. 2' WR comments

Antonio Cromartie says he meant no disrespect, but he meant what he said. The New York Jets cornerback started a mini-feud earlier this week when he told ''ESPN First Take'' that he'd rank himself as the No. 2 wide receiver on the team, behind only Santonio Holmes. Chaz Schilens called it ''a slight'' and coach Rex Ryan quickly quashed any tensions...

The Jets are always in the headlines especially when it comes to off the field commentary. Jets CB Antonio Cromartie got the party started Tuesday during an appearance on ESPN’s First Take by stating that he is the team’s second best wide receiver. “I think I’d put myself as second,” Cromartie said, “I haven’t really [...]

Antonio Cromartie says he is the second-best receiver on the Jets roster

Outside of new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano, nobody really knows what the Jets are planning to do with their offense this season. At this point it wouldn’t shock me if that includes Rex Ryan, who we all know is a defensive-minded coach. Tim Tebow is likely going to be used in a number of situations including the red zone and on special teams, but he may not be the only player...

Cromartie's comments causes stir

Antonio Cromartie Already Causing New York Jets Turmoil?

It didn’t take long for the New York Jets to undergo some turmoil, as they appear to be a team who just can’t seem to stay out of trouble every time they open their mouths. The best thing about the Jets’ controversy is that it is always someone new. That is what makes it ever so interesting. In the past, head coach Rex Ryan has spoken out about – well, everything – and...

New York Jets’ Chaz Schilens Takes Exception to Antonio Cromartie Comments

When Antonio Cromartie proclaimed himself as the second-best wide receiver on the New York Jets, you didn’t think it was going to go away without being blown out of proportion, did you? Antonio Cromartie is obviously very confident in his own athletic ability, and rightfully so. His words have made the rounds and one Jets wide receiver, Chaz Schilens, had a response ready...

Chaz Schilens on Antonio Cromartie: “I’ll let him think whatever he wants”

Trouble in paradise, or should we say training camp. Cornerback Antonio Cromartie said yesterday that “I’m the second best receiver on this team.” Chaz Schilens obviously took exception to the comments. According to Profootballtalk.com, Schilens blasted Cromartie for being so naïve, “I’ll let him think whatever he wants,” Schilens stated, via the New York Daily News...

Rex passes on razzing Obama about Jets comments

Rex Ryan is no trash talker when it comes to the president. A day after President Barack Obama told an Ohio radio station that he is not a fan of Tim Tebow being on the New York Jets, the normally brash and bold coach resisted taking the expected humorous swipe. Instead, Ryan says Friday that he respects Obama and ''I respect the fact that this is opinion.'' Wait...

New York Jets: What's With All The Hype?

If you've flipped through the cable sports coverage on NFL training camps in the New York area, you'd have been hard pressed to find much detailed information on your favorite team. Unless you're a New York Jets fan that is. The popularity of “tabloid journalism” makes it clear why the public at large is subject to so much Jets coverage.  Certainly, the Jets have...
