While speculation has led us to believe his job is on thin ice, Rex Ryan has a different design regarding his future.
During an interview with WLNY-TV Friday, Ryan said he hopes to remain the Jets coach for “about another 20 years." In order to achieve that arguably unattainable goal, the team has to perform better than in recent years.
And he knows it.
“Obviously the results weren’t what we wanted last year, there’s no question about that,” Ryan said. “But I’m excited about this team going forward. One things for certain: whoever is on the field is going to have to earn their way on their through competition and I think that’s gonna ultimately really help out team. I believe when we take the field opening day, our guys will be popping out of their skin ready to play.”
Ryan is entering his fifth year in New York, and make no mistake -- the honeymoon is over. No one remembers the 2009 and 2010 runs to the AFC Championship games. What now comes to mind is embarrass...
