As we've come to know him, Rex Ryan is the ultimate players coach, often times going out of his way to defend his own. So it's a bit surprising for the Jets' fifth-year coach to collectively rip his group of presumably butterfingered receivers, as he did on Wednesday. “What wasn’t outstanding was the way we caught the football yesterday. We dropped a ton of balls,” Ryan said, via the New York Daily News. “ Catch the football. You’re an NFL player, catch the football. You’re paid to catch the football, we expect it caught. When the ball is there, catch the ball.” During Tuesday's minicamp practice, several Jets wideouts, including Jeremy Kerley and Stephen Hill, dropped "numerous passes," prompting a displeased reaction from Ryan. “We gotta get that figured out. Whether it’s focus, whether it’s just having your hands in the right spot,” the coach said. “You should be surprised if anybody ever drops a ball. Yesterday I was surprised when we caught

  • Hey Rex, Your team is a mess. Your owner does not deserve to own a football franchise, especially in New York, and you do not have a QB that can throw a pass. So having wide receivers that drop balls is because they are not used to being hit with a good pass. Good luck to you this season......

Rex Ryan Thinks He’s a ‘Hell of a Lot Better Football Coach’ Than Given Credit For

Rex Ryan is coming off his worst season as head coach of the Jets, but if you thought that would stop him from speaking his mind and pumping his chest, think again. In fact, the season — one in which the Jets went 6-10 and subsequently cleaned house — may have been fuel to the fire. “I’m a hell of a lot better football coach than I’m given credit for,” Ryan told Newsday...

Rex Ryan: I'm better than people give me credit for

Rex Ryan knows he's living on borrowed time this season.  It's either an extended run into the playoffs or the unemployment line for the head coach of the New York Jets. With a depleted roster and another unstable quarterback situation, the cards are stacked high against Ryan still being with the Jets on New Year's Day.  Still, the blustery coach was defiant as ever...

Ryan jokes about Tebow joining Pats

Now that Tim Tebow is with the Patriots, Jets coach Rex Ryan took a moment to crack a joke, saying, "If they want to replace Brady with him, that’s fine."

Jets' secondary prepared for life after Revis

Darrelle Revis is a distant memory in the New York Jets' new-look secondary. Gone is the man considered by many to be one of the best players in team history, and perhaps the best cornerback in the NFL. But, Rex Ryan believes Antonio Cromartie can handle the load of being the No. 1 guy - especially since he did it last season when Revis got hurt. Ryan says Thursday that Cromartie...

Rex Ryan on Tim Tebow: “If they want to replace Brady with him, that’s fine.”

The ever quotable Rex Ryan. The New York Jets head coach is always good for saying something funny. Of course, Patriots fans have grown to hate him for his bombastic predictions and Patriots trash talk, however, Ryan isn't all trash talk. He breaks out the jokes too! Ryan held a press conference today for Jets minicamp and obviously Tim Tebow came up. The Patriots just signed...

Winslow, Sims-Walker Begin Tryouts

Florham Park, NJ - To say the Jets aren't stacked with receiver and tight end talent would be a huge understatement and that's exactly why John Idzik continued his bargain shopping by extending tryout invitations to Mike Sims-Walker and Kellen Winslow. With Santonio Holmes likely out until some point during training camp, Stephen Hill still working through some minor knee...

Rex Ryan: ‘I’m a hell of a lot better football coach than I’m given credit for’

Rex Ryan isn’t quite ready to go back to making bold claims about what his team is going to do in the upcoming year, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t the same old blowhard we are all used to. He’s been making all kinds of public comments as of late, like taking a shot at the Patriots signing Tim Tebow, and threatening to replace all his wide receivers, and even making a comment...

WR Holmes' challenge: learning to walk again

Rex Ryan complained about all the dropped passes by his receivers on the first day of minicamp. On the second day, things didn't get any better. At least the New York Jets' top receiver didn't have any bobbles: Santonio Holmes didn't practice. He won't for a while. Holmes has been out since last September, when he broke his left foot. He spoke Wednesday about...

Jets may have a read-option package for Geno Smith

According to Rich Cimini of, Jets head coach Rex Ryan told the media that they might develop a read-option package for rookie quarterback Geno Smith even if he’s not the starter. Ryan said they could have a read-option package for Geno Smith even if he's the backup. Kinda like the … uh, Tebow plan. #Jets — Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) June 12, 2013 It does...

Job Security Issues for New York Jets

It’s the middle of June and most NFL teams are preparing for the season with mini-camps, and signing free agents, but not the Jets.  The Jets are yet again making headlines for the wrong reasons.  Let’s start with the day after the NFL draft and the five quarterbacks on the Jets’ roster, who were led to believe that it is going to be an “open competition”; weeks later...
