Mercifully, the Jets' nightmarish season came to a close against the Bills Sunday, fittingly ending in the hands of Mark Sanchez. The much-maligned quarterback, who regained his job in the bizarrist of circumstances, fumbled twice and tossed an interception, which was returned for a touchdown in the 28-9 loss.

Meanwhile, disgruntled backup Tim Tebow, still waiting for his shot under center, continued to do a whole lot of nothing. He was brought in for just one play -- a hand-off -- and spent the rest of the game watching Sanchez struggle mightily.

That's how it's flowed the entire year, and coach Rex Ryan wasn't about to deviate from the norm.

"No, I made the decision. It was my decision to stay with Sanchez," Ryan told reporters, via NFL.com. "I was the only one who made that decision. It's on me, and obviously it didn't work out the way I wanted it to."

Ryan continued to peddle the same foolish overtures, saying Sanchez "gives us the best chance to win." What's more, he reaffirmed his total lack of trust in Tebow with a harsh barb.

"If I thought Tebow would have helped us win the game playing quarterback or defensive tackle," Ryan said, "I would have played him."

That tells us everything we need to know. The Jets don't -- and never did -- envision Tebow as a viable option at quarterback. They passed him over twice, opting to go with unproven Greg McElroy, and limited him to just 77 offensive snaps in 2012.

Some will say Ryan and his staff had no clue how to utilize Tebow, others will claim Tebow was a project forced upon the coaches by upper management. Looking at it objectively, it was probably a combination of the two. The marriage was extremely ill-fated from the beginning, screaming of a PR move and, unsurprisingly, yielding disastrous results.

When the divorce is consummated -- likely in the coming days -- Tebow will no longer be a sideshow in Gang Green's no-ring circus.
