For Rex Ryan, it won’t be easy telling the world with a straight face that the 2013 Jets will be the “most talented” team that he has ever coached. Like he did last season, before the spotty 6-10 club showed what they really were. Ryan’s one year sentence for believing, while criminally playing a role in the miscalculating over the past few seasons, is that he will have to be the head coach again. One who still must impress Idzik as a leader or else. Despite the house cleaning being implemented by the new GM. The loss of both starting safeties, veteran run stoppers, perhaps his tight end and all-world cornerback in the coming days are poised to become the cruel parting gift. This for a guy who after next season, will have worked for a half-decade in New York. With a resume that includes two AFC title game trips. How fast time flies and how soon we forget. Ryan will return after the free agency purge in need of having to guide a brand new team in many ways. One that has a host of questions to answer. With limited cash in Florham Park to  safely improve the team and Ryan’s job security in the immediate. The 8-8 disappointment of 2011 stripped Rex of his bravado. The disaster of 2012 then cost him much of his roster. One that the uber-loyal player’s coach believed in to the core, at least publicly. It is a recurring trait that is both part of Ryan’s charm and problem. An unwavering self confidence, coupled with a stubborn backing of his players. Even the inconsistent ones who are handed enormous responsibilities such as Mark Sanchez. The signal caller that Ryan and the Mike Tannenbaum Jets hitched their wagon to not only schematically, but financially. With little wiggle room until 2014 to completely remedy that ill-fated decision. In all likelihood Rex Ryan has one year to impress Idzik by maximizing whatever it is this club in transition can be in 2013. Ryan’s unique love and pride in being a Jet from day one, once helped turn a self pitying franchise around. Now lacking the bluster he once carried, with a roster undergoing an upheaval, he is clearly in danger. The blame for another six win campaign may land on his desk and nobody else’s this time around. A death sentence looms unless Ryan can locate the pulse of what he will be handed and elevate the entire group soon after. It will not be easy.
