Before Robert Griffin III was a trademarked brand -- which entails winning a Heisman Trophy and becoming the face of an NFL franchise -- he was a highly-decorated track star during his early years at Baylor University.

So you could understand the frustration of having to idly watch others compete for spots on the U.S. Olympic team, knowing he won't be headed to London this summer.

In his own words, "it sucks."

“My dad was talking to me about it [Wednesday night] and he was saying that a lot of my peers, the guys that I beat growing up, are running at the trials,” said Griffin, via NFL.com. “And . . . it does suck. I mean, that’s the only way to say it. It sucks.

“But I’m definitely fortunate to be in the situation that I am, being in the NFL, being a franchise quarterback for a team with the opportunity to go out and do an infinite amount of things.”

Griffin, who took home the gold in the 400m hurdles and earned All-America honors at Baylor, isn't giving up on his dreams. (Well, his other dreams.)

“If I wake up one day and it’s 2016 and I say I want to go run the hurdles again, “ he said, “I can do that.”

While most of us, myself included, hadn't seen RG3 tear up the track, we all witnessed his sheer speed on display during February's Combine, when he recorded an eye-opening 4.41 forty time and blazed through agility drills.

His wheels are what makes him such a dangerous threat on the field, and the sole reason why so many -- including the legendary Brett Favre -- are hopping on the bandwagon.

For Griffin's sake, it would've been nice if he had the chance to compete for a spot on the Olympic team. But he'll just have to settle on the lowly title of superstar quarterback and soon-to-be millionaire.

Bummer.
