Ray Rice says he's already spent a portion of the $40 million contract he received last week from the Baltimore Ravens.
The Pro Bowl running back said Wednesday that the first thing he did after agreeing to terms on a long-term deal was to buy his mother a house.
Rice says the security of knowing he will be with Baltimore for the next five years was every bit as important as the money. He says he intends to retire as a Raven.
Had Rice and the Ravens not reached an agreement, he would have retained the franchise tag. That means Rice would not be required to be in training camp at the outset.
He reported on time Wednesday and intends to participate in the first practice session Thursday.
