CBS analyst and former Minnesota quarterback believes that the Vikings did the right thing when they bypassed Johnny Manziel and selected Teddy Bridgewater in the 2014 NFL Draft. The team took Bridgewater with the No. 32 pick after passing on Manziel with their No. 8 selection (LB Anthony Barr), and then Browns selected Manziel at No. 22. The former signal caller said Bridgewater is in a excellent position with veteran Matt Cassel ahead of him and taking the pressure off of the rookie. In Cleveland, Brian Hoyer is the No. 1 guy, but for how long? If Hoyer struggles, the calls for Manziels will ring out, If Cassel struggles the team can slide in Christian Ponder as a buffer before officially handing over the offense to Bridgewater. Gannon thinks the Minnesota situation is better than the one in Cleveland. “You look at the Manziel situation,’’ Gannon said, via the Pioneer Press. “I think unless Hoyer gets out and just lights it up and the team is starting to win, (he’s in jeopardy). If they don’t, if they start 1-3, they’re going to be clamoring for Manziel. It’s going to be so hard for their coaching staff. They’re going to go, ‘Whoa, hold on now.’’’ “This situation, they got Cassel back,’’ Gannon said “Cassel is a pretty capable player … I think he’s going to be pretty good in Norv’s offense.’’
