At this time last year, it seemed that Rich Ohrnberger was going to be in the hunt for a starting job on the Patriots offensive line for the 2011 season. As of today, he’s going to be on the hunt for any job.
The 26-year-old interior offensive lineman was released by the Patriots today after spending the entire 2011-12 regular season on injured reserve with a head injury.
Ohrnberger was chosen by the Patriots in the 4th round of the 2009 NFL Draft after being named a first team All-Big Ten guard in his senior season at Penn State. In his rookie season in New England, he only appeared in 3 games and in 2010, he only made the active roster for 2.
Heading into training camp this year, Ohrnberger was locked in a tight battle with Dan Connolly for the starting right guard position for the Patriots, but ultimately lost out because of his concussion.
