Richard Seymour has been gaining lots of attention around the NFL since his preseason trade to the Raiders. The buzz around the league has been whether or not Seymour would report to the Raiders or possibly face sitting a year out of the NFL. The questions were answered by Richard Seymour today, after reports surfaced saying Seymour has finally reported to the Oakland Raiders. Patriots and Raiders fans alike can breathe a sigh of relief. The report is that Richard Seymour has reported and will be eligible to play in Oakland's Monday night opener at 10 PM EST. If I'm coaching the Raiders, I can't see playing this guy with literally no practice reps with the Raiders defense. I'm not exactly sure how many reps it would take to catch Seymour up with the Raiders defense, but I don't think it would take less than a day to learn. I love this deal for two reasons. First, the Raiders are getting a pro bowl defensive end who could help solidify the Raiders defensive front. He might not like where he is but if I know anything about Seymour he'll play hard and get his fair share of tackles and 5-10 sacks. Second, the Patriots are in prime position after dealing Seymour to get a top 10 or higher draft pick from the Raiders who are still looking to find their way out of the bottom of the league. There's no gaurantees going from year to year in the NFL so the Patriots could be looking at a middle of the road first round pick, but given Belichick's previous first round draft picks he'll find someone who fits in perfect with the Patriots defense. With Vince Wilfork looking for a new contract Belichick knew he was going to have to use his money wisely, you can't ask for much more than a Raiders first round pick.
