Stevan Ridley learned the hard way as a rookie. Hold on to the ball or grab a seat on the bench. His fumble in the third quarter of New England's divisional playoff win over Denver was the final time he received the ball last season. He didn't suit up for the AFC title game, and was in uniform for the Super Bowl, but didn't play. But now, with a renewed focus on holding the ball high and tight with two hands, Ridley is off to a good start this season as the Patriots' new top running back. In the season opener, he rushed 21 times for 125 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 27 yards. That's a total of 23 touches, 152 yards, one touchdown - and no fumbles. --- Online: http://pro32.ap.org/poll and http://twitter.com/AP-NFL

Tom Brady says Wes Welker is still a big part of their offense

On Wednesday, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady reassured everyone that wide receiver Wes Welker is “a huge part of this offense and what we do on a weekly basis.” Last Sunday Welker wasn’t on the field as much as he’s been in the past and he only had the ball thrown to him five times the entire game. “Every week is a little bit different,” Brady explained. “There...

Report: Patriots Work Out Quarterback Curtis Painter, Cornerback Chris Carr, Six Others

Most Patriots fans would be happy if Tom Brady took every snap this season, but beyond the future Hall of Famer, New England has just one quarterback waiting in the wings. That could explain the recent interest in working out QBs. The Patriots worked out eight players, including quarterbacks Curtis Painter and Stephen McGee on Tuesday, according to ESPN.com. The other six players...

Chandler Jones' Ability to Hound Quarterbacks Will Be Key to Patriots Defensive Success

The Patriots defense looked about as good as it has in a few years on Sunday. But while Vince Wilfork and Jerod Mayo performed at their normal elite levels, it was the play of one rookie that made the big difference.
