Philip Rivers wants to set the record straight.
TV cameras appeared to catch Rivers saying ''This is the worst day ever,'' moments after he fumbled away the snap on Monday night at Kansas City as the San Diego Chargers were driving to what appeared to be certain victory in the last minute of regulation.
Instead, the Chiefs recovered and went on to win 23-20 in overtime.
Rivers claimed Wednesday that he didn't say that. `'It may have been the worst play I've ever been a part of, but it wasn't the worst day,'' Rivers said as the Chargers began preparing to face the undefeated Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
Regardless of what he said, Rivers said it was a rough way to lose.

SCOTT JACOBS
Philip Rivers has had what many would consider a brilliant NFL career. Since taking the reigns as starter 6 years ago, he’s become one of the NFL’s best QBs. But he’s failed to lead the talented Chargers to the Super Bowl, and on Monday Night threw his league leading 11th interception of the season. Adding insult to injury he then mishandled Nick Hardwick’s...
Chargers' Rivers: 'This is the worst day ever'
The television cameras zoomed in on Philip Rivers just after he had fumbled away the San Diego Chargers' chance to beat the Kansas City Chiefs in regulation.
It didn't take a professional lip-reader for the message to come across.
''This,'' Rivers said on the sideline, ''is the worst day ever.''
Only for the Chargers.
It was awfully good...

NFL Week 9 Pick'em
A lot is being made of San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers and his struggles this season. From 2008 to 2010, Rivers has averaged 4,324 yards passing, 30.7 touchdown passes, 11 interceptions, and his QB rating has been at least 101.8 all three years. The Chargers offense has averaged 445 points per game those three seasons and has finished in the Top-5 each season.
That has...
Chargers Need Rivers To Find Form Quickly
Philip Rivers might have had more difficult games from a statistical perspective, but Monday night’s loss had to be emotionally draining. Whatever the reason for his poor play, Rivers’ slide leaves the Chargers in a precarious situation in the deadlocked AFC West.
Jets' LT says Chargers' Rivers 'seems distracted'
LaDainian Tomlinson says he thinks San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers ''seems distracted,'' and was stunned Monday night when his former teammate fumbled a snap near the end of regulation of an overtime loss to Kansas City.

Halloween horror: Rivers botches snap to set up game-winning FG
It was an all-time NFL blunder, the kind that will show up on "SportsCenter" countdowns and career retrospectives for years. With his team preparing to run down the clock and set up a chip-shot, game-winning field goal, San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers mishandled a routine snap on a kneel-down play, fumbled the ball and handed possession to the Kansas City Chiefs...
Norv Turner May be a Destructive Influence on Rivers, Chargers
Unlike the past few years, the San Diego Chargers started their season strong; leading the AFC West Division and racking up four wins early in the season. For a team that started last season at 0-1 before quickly sliding to 3-5 by this time last year, that’s a great record. The game against the New York Jets looked promising with the Bolts taking an early lead and ending the...

LaDainian Tomlinson says Philip Rivers appears 'distracted' this season
Count LaDainian Tomlinson among the people who have been confounded by Philip Rivers’ poor performance this season. Rivers has thrown a league-high 11 interceptions and has a pedestrian 80.7 quarterback rating through seven games.
Tomlinson, who was teammates with Rivers in San Diego, didn’t ...
Succop's FG in OT lifts Chiefs over Chargers
Up and down the sideline, the Kansas City Chiefs were telling each other the game wasn't over. Didn't matter that Philip Rivers was under center with less than a minute left, and that Nick Novak was poised to kick the winning field goal for San Diego.
Chargers GM Smith fires back at Jets' Tomlinson
San Diego Chargers general manager A.J. Smith took issue with New York Jets running back LaDainian Tomlinson's comments regarding struggling quarterback Philip Rivers.
When Tomlinson noted that Rivers "seems distracted" after he fumbled a snap late in Monday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, it indirectly raised the ire of Smith.
"When you’re in your prime...
A.J. Smith fires back at LaDainian Tomlinson
When we passed along LaDainian Tomlinson’s remarks about Philip Rivers earlier Thursday, we guessed that they wouldn’t play too well in San Diego. Chargers G.M. A.J. Smith did not disappoint. Smith took issue with the notion that Rivers is distracted and struggling this season because of the pressure inherent in being ‘The Guy.’ “I agree with what…
