Rob Gronkowski doesn’t have anything left to prove in the NFL. But now there’s reason to believe the All-Pro tight end might actually be retiring after all. In fact, rumors are swirling that Gronkowski is set to pursue acting after his football career is over. This is according to Bill Burt of the Eagle Tribune.

“Gronkowski, nicknamed “Gronk,” has been told by two Hollywood superstars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Sylvester Stallone, that he could make millions of dollars in action films.”

Well that’s that. After all, this is Dwayne Johnson and Sly we’re taking about here. And if anyone would know about how much money there is in this game, especially lately, it’s The Rock. Plus, there’s a very good reason as to why Gronk is considering retirement already.

“Gronkowski has told friends that the injuries have taken a toll on him.”

Gronk only turns 29 in May, but there have been countless injuries during his eight-year career. Most recently he would suffer a concussion in the AFC championship game. And despite returning for Super Bowl LII, this isn’t his first concussion. In fact, Gronkowski would play in all 16 games of an NFL season only twice — the first two years of his career.

Plus, from a financial standpoint, he won’t be earning all that much (comparatively) over the next two seasons. Gronkowski is set to make $8 million next season and $9 million in 2019 in terms of base salary. But despite all of the injuries, Gronk remains the best tight end in football. There is no stopping him when he’s healthy. If the Patriots lose him now, that’s a big hole to fill as Tom Brady gets another year older.

But if he can get out now, make more money and not become a shell of himself down the road, why wouldn’t he? Let’s see how interesting this gets. In the meantime, there’s no reason to expect an immediate announcement. But this sure does add another layer to New England’s potentially odd offseason.

But what do you think? Does Gronk have a career in Hollywood? And how many buddy cop movies do you expect him to make?
