Now that Bob Sutton has accepted an offer to be the Chiefs new defensive coordinator, there’s a chance New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan may want to hire his brother Rob Ryan to lead his defense. Ryan parted ways with Mike Pettine, who was named the Bills defensive coordinator this week. The News reported Tuesday that Ryan will promote defensive backs coach Dennis Thurman to defensive coordinator. The initial thought was that there would not be a family reunion, but Rex would at the very least have to seriously consider adding his brother if he loses Sutton, who has been with the Jets since 2000 and was defensive coordinator from 2006-08 before Ryan arrived. If Sutton leaves, it may make sense for Rex to bring in an experienced coach like his brother. Ryan’s plan to promote Thurman likely won’t change, but Rob could provide another seasoned voice for a defense that has finished first, third, fifth and eighth in Rex’s four seasons with the Jets. It could also bolster a defense in a make-or-break year for Rex. Right now it doesn’t look like Rob will end up in New York, but you never know.     Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; script.src = 'http://widget.crowdignite.com/widgets/27484?_ci_wid=_CI_widget_'+_CI.counter; script.async = true; ref.parentNode.insertBefore(script, ref); })(); sr_adspace_id = 1000005525107; sr_adspace_width = 300; sr_adspace_height = 250; sr_ad_new_window = true; sr_adspace_type = "graphic";

St. Louis Rams: Rob Ryan would not be a good fit in St. Louis

The St. Louis Rams are looking for a new defensive coordinator now that Gregg Williams, who remains suspended because of his involvement in the New Orleans Saints bounty gate, likely will never wear the headset in St. Louis. Rob Ryan, twin brother of New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan, was recently fired by the Dallas Cowboys and is looking for a new gig. Ryan is one of the best...

Report: Rams hire Ryan as defensive coordinator

Rob Ryan was hired by the St. Louis Rams on Friday to be their defensive coordinator, according to the New York Post. Ryan was fired as the Dallas Cowboys' defensive coordinator this week. The Rams fired Gregg Williams after the regular season ended. He has been under suspension by the NFL because of the New Orleans Saints' "bounty" program when he was their...

Report: Rob Ryan hired as Rams Defensive Coordinator

NBCSports.com is reporting that the St Louis Rams have hired Rob Ryan as their new defensive coordinator. Ryan was let go by the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday, and although he wasn’t exactly hired in ‘five minutes’ he was scooped up pretty quickly. Last season the Rams were sans their defensive coordinator, Gregg Williams, because he was barred from participating in the season...

Rob Ryan reportedly close to deal with Rams

It looks like New York is only big enough for one of the Ryan twins after multiple reports Friday said  that Rob Ryan was nearing a deal with the St. Louis Rams as their defensive coordinator. Rob Ryan was the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator until he was fired Tuesday.  Ryan's dismissal, along with the New York Jets canning of defensive coordinator Mike Pettine and linebackers...

Report: Rams to hire Rob Ryan

It didn't take long for Rob Ryan to find work after being fired by Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys. According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, Ryan has been hired as the defensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams. Ryan has had stints as the defensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders (2004-2008), Cleveland Browns (2009-10) and Dallas Cowboys (2011-2012). The...

Jerry Jones: Defense struggled before injuries

As the season-ending injuries continued to pile up on defense, the effectiveness of Rob Ryan's group steadily decreased. The argument could be made that Ryan, the team's defensive coordinator who was fired Tuesday, shouldn't be ridiculed for the way the defense played down the stretch because they were missing several key contributors. But while assessing the play of...

Kiffin has credentials, will Jerry have patience?

After recently turning 70, perhaps Jerry Jones was sick of being the oldest guy at Valley Ranch. Enter the soon-to-be 73-year-old Monte Kiffin, who will replace Rob Ryan as defensive coordinator. It's the sort of move that would bother Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy, who apparently didn't retain 66-year-old defensive coordinator Bill Young because his advanced age was scaring...

Jerry Jones Wants Jason Garrett To Stop Calling Plays

Many were shocked, to say the least, after former DC Rob Ryan was fired by owner Jerry Jones. There are now reports that Jerry Jones wants Jason Garrett to stop calling plays for the offense. This was reported by Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio:   According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, owner Jerry Jones is pushing coach Jason Garrett to relinquish play-calling duties. Per Mort...

Report: Cowboys Set To Hire Monte Kiffin As DC

Jerry Jones hinted at big changes coming for the Dallas Cowboys, and they may come sooner than later.  Nick Eatman of  dallascowboys, com is reporting that Cowboys have target former Southern Cal defensive coordinator and cover 2 expert Monte Kiffin.   The Cowboys official site is reporting Jerry Jones met with Kiffin Today, and something could be announced as early as this evening...

Report: Jets Can’t Give GM Job Away

The Jets mess as I like to call the New York Jets organizational downfall in 2012, is still hilarious even though we have entered the off-season stage of it all. After the Jets fired Mike Tannenbaum, it was assumed that shortly after Rex Ryan returned from his vacation there would already be a general manager in place, and the team would prepare for the 2013 season and the changes...
