The RG3 experience is making a return to the field sooner than expected. Doctors cleared Robert Griffin III to practices with the Washington Redskins on Monday, meaning he’ll be participating with the team when they open training camp on Thursday. The NFL’s reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year tweeted out the big news to his near 1 million followers on Monday. Doctors cleared me to practice. Coach is going to ease me in. Thank you for your support & See you in Richmond— Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) July 22, 2013 Griffin tore ligaments in his right knee during the Redskins’ 24-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in a divisional round playoff game on Jan. 6. His recovery was heavily followed and scrutinized after Vikings running  back Adrian Peterson returned from the same injury to become the NFL MVP last season. Now, Griffin won’t immediately jump back into the full swing of drills and practices, but he’s even farther ahead of his recovery timeline than initially expected. Griffin was a limited participant in the Redskins’ mandatory minicamp earlier this offseason, taking a few dropbacks and throwing passes to receivers. He was ahead of schedule then and is even farther ahead now that he’s been cleared to practice weeks before his expected return date. Griffin will participate in 7-on-7 drills with the first-team offense and he will gradually reintegrate into individual position drills as camp goes on, according to Jeff Darlington of NFL.com. As a rookie, Griffin threw for 3,200 yards with 20 touchdowns while breaking the rookie-quarterback rushing record with 815 yards on the ground. Have a question for Luke Hughes?
