Oakland Raiders middle linebacker Rolando McClain has been found guilty on charges of assault, menacing, reckless endangerment and wrongful discharge of a weapon. The court sentenced the linebacker to 180 days in jail.
Late last November, McClain supposedly made threats towards Rishard Tapscott before placing a pistol on his head and firing the gun just above Tapscott’s ear. McClain continued to threat Tapscott in March at a basketball game.
If McClain serves the full sentence given by the court, the star linebacker will not be able to return to the Raiders until at least mid-November.
It’s perhaps ironic that these accusations and sentence would be against a Raider player. Stemming all the way back in the 1960’s with owner Al Davis, the franchise has the historic reputation for bad behavior. Still, it is poorly timed for Oakland as the team was just one win away in 2011 from reaching the playoffs for the first time in eight seasons.
