Found April 28, 2013 on The Bay Cave:

It sounds like the Buccaneers biggest weakness in 2012 will continue to get stronger this week for 2013 with the possible announcement of Ronde Barber’s return.  Pewter Report’s Mark Cook said during his Sunday radio show on 98.7 The Fan that he has heard the veteran cornerback may be announcing a return this week. Let’s please put emphasis on the words “may” and “heard” in the previous sentence as it is not official. But if true, the Buccaneers can have arguably the best secondary in the league — at least on paper. It’s been rumored for quite some time now that the 38-year old has been contemplating a return to football and the Bucs as it depended on how the Darrelle Revis situation played out. Well, Revis is now in Tampa Bay so Barber sounds like he is leaning towards a return. As it stands, Revis and Eric Wright are logically the two corners that would start in the Bucs’ secondary this season. It’s been reported that the Bucs have offered Barber a role on the team but nothing has been confirmed. From Barber taking an advisory style position off the sidelines to him playing strictly the nickel corner spot, many ideas have been tossed around. But let’s take it back for a moment. Last year, head coach Greg Schiano stated they form the lineup to have the best 11 players on the field — which moved Ronde Baber to safety. What if the best 11 on defense for 2013 includes Barber in a starting cornerback role? What if it’s Wright as the third corner on depth chart? What do they do with with the nickel between Wright and rookie Jonathan Banks or Barber and Banks? Would the Bucs put a rookie ahead of a 17-year veteran on the depth chart? Of course Mark Cook’s comment has to hold true, but those are valid questions. Questions that the Buccaneers may already have answered.
