After 16 seasons in the NFL, who does Ronde Barber think was the hardest receiver to cover? (Credit: AP Photo)
Last week, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive back Ronde Barber retired from the NFL. During his sixteen year career in the NFL, one in which he spent every season in Tampa Bay, Barber covered a lot of great wide receivers. Barber had the task of covering players like Jerry Rice and Randy Moss.
After covering some all-time greats, who does Barber think was the toughest?
“Megatron was impossible to cover. Randy Moss in his prime: nothing you can do,”Barber told SI.com’s Peter King. “But to me, (the Carolina Panthers’) Steve Smith was the toughest guy I faced. When I played him, he was just like me. He chose to outwork everyone else out there every day. That was me.”
Barber had to face Smith at least twice a season since 2002 when the NFC South featured both the Panthers and Bucs.
