Rookie Travis Bond can see an opportunity to earn a role and a very valuable one at that. He was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the seventh round, 214 overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft. The swing tackle position has a lot of weight as a player would be covering both the right and left tackle positions. Injuries happen during the season and at times they will make the offensive line to do some moving around. At 375 pounds, the massive Bonds is a good candidate with his size, but he’s learning how to go from one side to another, it sounds easy but not so much. Just a subtle adjustment of sliding either to the right or left, but a tackles technique can get crossed up if he doesn’t have the mental side down in order to come in a play effectively immediately. However, Bond has done this in college so the transition isn’t a shock to his system. "Just out here trying to learn every play I get," Bond said, via Tom Pelissero of 1500 ESPN. "Just got to learn more concepts, think how the older guys think. Getting a lot of feedback from Phil and (right guard Brandon) Fusco. It's pretty fun out there." "It's cool," Bond said. "I'm used to (playing different spots), because at Carolina, I was like a swing guy. If somebody goes down, I fill in." "I think I can do it," Bond said. "Haven't played a lot of left, but just got to refresh my memory. It's a big transition, moving from right to left. It might not seem like it, but it's like muscle memory. You've just got to get back in the hang of it."
