According to ESPN.com, the Texans and Vikings are close to a deal that would send the Texans other starting quarterback, Sage Rosenfels, to the Vikings in exchange for a 4th round draft pick.It would definitely be a shame to see Sage go, but I can't argue with GM Rick Smith's previous manuevers. In the few trades the Texans have been a part of under his control, none have necessarily hurt the team in any way. Babin for Boulware is one example, where we traded a guy who didn't pan out for a guy that...well didn't pan out either. It didn't really hurt, but it addressed an area that needed immediate help, and there was (at the time) the thought that Boulware could still figure things out and turn into a beast. But this trade confuses me. A fourth round pick in return suggests that they're clearing cap space, but at what cost? I'm concerned about who will be backing up Schaub now. History has shown that whoever it ends up being will see playing time. Rosenfels was able to step in and perform at a relatively equitable level in Schaub's absence. Do the Texans plan on drafting a QB in the later rounds as a stopgap now? The free agent market isn't exactly teeming with quality backups.Sage Rosenfels deserves to start on a team. He's not the best option out there, but for the Vikings he's perfect. His arm is good enough to be productive, and he can manage the game well. That right there is all the Vikings have needed the past two years to make a good post season run. He's faster that Frerotte and way more accurate than Jackson. Put Rosenfels on a run-heavy team like Minnesota and you could be looking at next season's Kerry Collins.I don't think you can really grade this trade until next season, to be honest. As for right now I would have to say advantage: Minnesota. Good luck Sage.
