60 Max Power O:
While I mentioned that Evan Royster had been practicing with the Washington Redskins first team in the most recent Week in Review, news emerged today that he is officially the #1 RB in D.C. — as it stands now.
As per The Washington Times, Mike Shanahan announced in a press conference after practice that the 2nd-year running back will start in Washington’s first preseason game in Buffalo on Thursday night.
The Redskins’s expected-starting-running-back, Tim Hightower, remains sidelined as he recovers from a torn ACL. After both having impressive rookie seasons, the battle for his job came down to Roy Helu and Royster. As of now, it’s safe to say Royster has won the early battle, but will still have to prove himself throughout the preseason.
Hightower has not gotten any reps in practice, so it appears highly doubtful that he’ll be back and in playing form by the team regular season begins, so this battle could have much greater implications than who will be the better young ru...

According to Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan in Washington D.C., Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan has indicated that running back Evan Royster will get the start for Thursday’s game against the Bills.
This doesn’t come as a surprise, since Royster has been getting the first team reps throughout training camp so far.
OK, read on.
In an effort to protect his separated right shoulder, and not miss any practice time, Redskins receiver Anthony Armstrong on Monday wore a yellow non-contact jersey, similarly used by quarterbacks. No big deal, right?
He decided to take it a step further — and really shout “stay away!” — by slapping an upside-down question mark on the front, and a regular...
I admit to skepticism about running back Tristan Davis, who has been touted by Redskins Hog Heaven lurker and contributor Scott Hirsch. (See Tristan Davis chases his dream....) I could not see how Davis could crack the line-up with Tim Hightower, Evan Royster, Roy Helu in front of him, and with rookie Alfred Morris in the way. Hirsch had faith and strongly so. Davis got an endorsement...
For the Washington Redskins, their success in the past always hinged on quarterback play and offensive line consistency. And, as an admitted D.C. Homer, there's been nearly nothing positive in those areas for the past decade. As a result, it's been extremely easy to write the Skins off every year.
The last time Washington won their division was in 1999 (Family Guy's...
ESPN's Dan Graziano is reporting that Evan Royster will get the start at RB over Roy Helu. Tim Hightower is still recovering from last year's knee injury and Graziano reports that the Redskins believe that Royster has more upside than Helu and is less prone to injury.
Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis and left tackle Trent Williams are set to play for the first time since Dec. 4 in Thursday's preseason opener after they were suspended for the final four games of 2011 for failing multiple drug tests.
Asked if he's eager to face the Buffalo Bills, Williams chuckled and said, ''More than you know, man. I get tired of blocking...
The organized team meetings, non sanctioned team meetings, and the summer training camp have come and gone for the Washington Redskins. This coming week the 2012 NFL season will come full swing as the first preseason games of the year will commence. This preseason will be very big for the Redskins as they pull the bubble [...]
Looking forward to making his preseason debut, Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III revealed he has one apprehension.
Griffin joked he would prefer not getting hit on Thursday, when the Redskins travel to play the Buffalo Bills.
Good luck with that, because the Bills high-priced, retooled Mario Williams-led defensive line has a much different intention in making...
The Redskins are expected to take the field for Thursday's preseason opener at Buffalo minus three starters along the offensive line, but offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said he's not concerned about those injuries at this point in training camp. "It's part of camp. Yeah, we have three starters who aren't practicing right now. I'm hoping we'll get...
I'm ready for some football. Even though Redskins at Bills is a pretend game, it beats TV replays of games played between teams that are not the Washington Redskins.
Robert Griffin III is the most compelling personality of the rookie class. We have been comparing him to big signings of Redskins lore, but interest in this guy is beyond that. I don't believe that jersey sales...
