Colts right tackle Ryan Diem was scheduled to earn $5.4 million in the final year of his current contract, but has taken a pay cut and is happy to remain with the team.

“I wasn’t real interested in picking up and moving and starting over in a new system with a new team,” Diem said. “Everything’s so comfortable here. I love this team. I love the coaches. I love the atmosphere and I definitely didn’t want to change.”

The Colts had used their first two picks of the 2011 NFL Draft on offensive tackles, and even though the lockout prevented the rookies from making an impression on coaches during OTAS and mini-camp, Diem’s age (32), salary and contract status made him a candidate to restructure his contract.

Exact details of the restructure are unknown, but Chappell believes Diem will make more than $2 million this season.

“I know of guys who have left here and really regretted it,” Diem said…”When you’re winning and things are good and the culture is good, it continues to get better. I wasn’t going to go chase a couple of bucks to go to a team that wasn’t successful.”
