Detroit Lions’ Head Coach Jim Schwartz has apparently told the team to “be on board” this season.  Good for him, for that statement serves as fair warning to potential slackers and also acts as an enthusiastic admonition to get the job done…..now. Jim Schwartz: All aboard In seasons long since passed and well before the current staff took over, I would watch as the Lions play seemed to be radically off-kilter or would suffer a significant downturn as the season (and the losses) mounted.  Before the Schwartz/Mayhew era, the team sometimes appeared to be playing at 3/4 speed when compared to their opponents.  Blocking was sloppy and the movements of some players seemed less than crisp.  To me, this was never more evident than in the final 22 games of Rod Marinelli’s tenure as head coach.  In his first season, Marinelli managed to squeeze three wins out of 16 games.  He and the Lions entered his second season full of fight and promise.  Ending that season with a 7-9 record should have been something of a victory, but the team then returned in 2008 to infamously go 0-16...
