In April 2012, the Washington Redskins took a risk and traded up to draft Robert Griffin III of Baylor as the second overall pick in the NFL Draft. The Redskins brought in Griffin to be the savior. He was the future of a franchise that was completely void of a consistent quarterback. Expectations were high and the stakes were higher. This was a boom or bust draft pick for everyone involved. On the contrary, the Seattle Seahawks drafted Russell Wilson in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. IRVING, Texas — An elusive player like Robert Griffin III or Vince Young or the like usually leads to really good conversion rates on third down, and for the Texas A&M Aggies, that’s just what they’ve got in signal caller Johnny Manziel.
Depth at quarterback is a rarity in the 21st-centruy NFL. The days of Steve Young coming off of the bench for an injured Joe Montana are gone. Once a backup quarterback establishes himself, he is lost to free agency as he becomes a luxury his team cannot afford – a casualty of the salary cap.
With the emergence of Robert Griffin and Russell Wilson, the Redskins and Seahawks each...
