Russell Wilson reportedly had 'exploratory meeting' with NFC team

The Russell Wilson free agency saga started this week after the Denver Broncos decided to release the Super Bowl champion quarterback. After two years in Denver and one under Sean Payton, the Broncos decided to part ways with Wilson, who is expected to have a decent market this offseason.

NFL insider Adam Schefter reports that Wilson is on his way to meet with the Pittsburgh Steelers, widely considered the No. 1 contender for Wilson. However, before landing in Pittsburgh, the Super Bowl XLVIII champion made a stop in New Jersey to speak with the New York Giants.

Although Wilson is reportedly on the radar of several teams, the Giants didn't appear to be one of them until now. Following an underwhelming 2023 season with Daniel Jones, Tommy DeVito and Tyrod Taylor as quarterbacks, the Giants are pondering their options to fill in the position.

Quarterback prospects like Drake Maye and J.J. McCarthy have been mentioned as potential draft candidates for the Giants. That said, they could take a different route and land an established signal-caller who has had success in the league.

Wilson won't demand a big contract after being released by the Broncos, which is an advantage for the Giants, Steelers or any other team trying to acquire his services.

Schefter adds that the Las Vegas Raiders could also be in play for Wilson's signing. They are starting fresh under Antonio Pierce and a veteran like Wilson could be very appealing for them.

The Minnesota Vikings and Atlanta Falcons are also linked with the 35-year-old signal-caller.

As for the Giants, they have several questions to answer this offseason. They would be better off trying to upgrade the offensive line and bring in a young quarterback they can develop for the future instead of adding somebody like Wilson, who's looking for a team trying to win right now.

Free agency hasn't started yet, so only time will tell where Wilson ends up and what decision the Giants make in a crucial offseason.
