Texans coach Gary Kubiak says safety Ed Reed is doing ''really well'' as he recovers from hip surgery.
The nine-time Pro Bowler signed a three-year, $15 million contract in free agency and will miss all of the Texans' organized team activities, which began Monday.
Linebacker Brian Cushing will also miss the OTAs as he recovers from left knee surgery. Cushing says he has no restrictions on the knee, but coaches are playing it safe.
Kubiak said linebacker Brooks Reed took reps at inside linebacker, which allows draft picks Sam Montgomery and Trevardo Williams to play with the first and second teams. Monday was also the first opportunity for first-round pick DeAndre Hopkins to take the field with fellow receiver Andre Johnson.

OTAs open up today for the Houston Texans and one of the big storylines heading into them are the injuries the team is dealing with. There have been offseason surgeries the team has dealt with and a few injuries that will effect the roster heading into week one.
Here is a look at some injuries to watch moving forward.

Today the Houston Texans opened up their organized team activities, or better known as OTA’s. The Texans finished their best season as a franchise record wise with a bitter taste in their mouths, after losing to the New England Patriots in just the second round of the playoffs. The Texans look to learn from the mistakes they made late in the season last year. The goal of this...
Today was day number two and practice number two for the Houston Texans OTAs. There was some news today out of camp and one scary collision that left one Texans player left for further evaluation.
Also, some key veterans took the day off to observe practice but helped when needed with the younger players. The temperature was a little humid and the wind once again provided a nice...
The Houston Texans, all 89 of them, came together for their first OTA session of the 2013 season. This is the first of 10 practices but it is a good sight to finally see more Texans football being put out on display.
There are some new faces at Reliant and some that were missing, but still a new outlook for the 2013 season is at hand. Here are some early thoughts on the opening...
According to CSNHouston.com, Texans linebacker Brooks Reed is 100 percent healthy following groin surgery that he underwent back in January.
“I’m alright. Groin’s OK,” Reed said. “I hurt it way back on Thanksgiving Day. It’s been a while so I’ve had a lot of time to recover.”
“I didn’t think about it then,” he said. “It shouldn’t be anything to worry about...

Phillips last week, and Reed told reporters yesterday that he underwent...

While Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing isn’t sure if
he’ll be ready for the first practice of the team’s upcoming training camp, he
did tell reporters – including Nick Scurfield of HoustonTexans.com – that he’ll
“definitely” be on the field for the first game of the regular season.

A lot of Baltimore fans criticized the Ravens' front office for allowing Ed Reed to walk off into free agency...
But consider these recent developments:
The Houston Texans are just a couple of months into their association with Ed Reed, and they’re already not quite sure what is up with the Ravens’ former safety.
Everything was great when they signed him to a...
Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing tore his ACL in October verse the New York Jets but is very confident that he’ll be ready for Week One of the NFL season. The linebacker also says he’s close to returning to the practice field but will hold off till the start of camp.
“My return is right around the corner, so that’s a good feeling,” Cushing said on Monday after...
When it comes to planning the Super Bowl the NFL likes to have the host site selected a few years in advance. Since it is the culmination of a long, hard fought season that averages a cool $9 billion in revenue the finally has to be done right. With a few years to plan there is no conceivable reason for anything to go wrong (right Jerry Jones?).
So with that in mind the NFL announced...
Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt is the current gold standard for aspiring high school players - like Middletown (MD) Ricky Leonard - wanting to master the position. Knowing where Watt learned his skills, Leonard was excited to get an offer from Wisconsin on Monday.

Pick for pick, I’d argue that no division had a better 2013 NFL Draft than the AFC North. The Baltimore Ravens just won the Super Bowl, so clearly their front office is doing something right. The Cincinnati Bengals have made the postseason three out of the past four years, and look poised to remain in the AFC...
