Third year safety Nate Allen injured his hamstring in practice on Thursday.  Allen then did not participate in practice on Friday, leaving his status for Monday night's Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints showdown in jeopardy.   He has not been ruled out yet for the game, but playing in the secondary with a recent hamstring pull seems unlikely.  If Allen cannot play, new defensive coordinator Todd Bowles will have to insert David Sims into the starting safety spot.  Sims was acquired from the Cleveland Browns via trade on the last day of preseason roster cuts.  Sims has played on special teams with the Eagles and throughout most of his two year career.  Sims was an undrafted free agent out of Iowa State in 2011.  Sims was initially signed by the New York Giants, then he played for the Browns.   The Browns would eventually trade him to the Eagles.  Sims has not been tested on defense at the NFL level, but it looks like he will get his chance Monday night against the Saints. Darren Sproles will also miss the game for the Saints. Be sure to check out other great articles at Sports Media 101.
