Saints head coach Sean Payton returned to the practice field on a limited basis Thursday, overseeing portions of practice with his surgically-repaired left leg elevated on a golf cart. Payton also made his return to his daily press conference with the media, arriving on crutches before hopping up to his seat on the stage. Payton spoke confidently about how the team's weekly operation has still been running smoothly in his absence, though he admitted it was hard to be confined to his hospital room Monday and part of Tuesday. "You go from having a lot of control to all of a sudden sitting in a hospital bed where you have very little," said Payton, who admitted it was hard to listen to acting head coach Joe Vitt hold the weekly Monday press conference over the radio in his place.
