PLAYERS: Drew Brees
TEAMS: New Orleans Saints

Atlanta-falcons-new
You have future Hall of Famer QB Drew Brees practically giving you the game scoring TD after TD late in the game. However, the 49'ers answered back. They won 36-32 thanks to a Saints defense that played terrible in the last 3:00 of the game. Despite 5 to's the Saints were in this thing, ready to face the winner of Giants/Green Bay game. But hold it, Alex Smith throws a couple of passes, and the offense burst a couple of long plays, a stout defense wouldn't have allowed. It's almost as if the Saint's Defense knew that Brees could score at anytime so it played soft, the time they could least afford to.Honestly, the Saints were the better team but they were outplayed by a courageous, tough San Francisco team coached by a firece head coach in Jim Harbaurgh. If Harbaugh played for the Bears they way he coaches, they would have made the playoffs with him. He really had his team fired up and playing on every play. The Saints took some plays off and it backfired ...

Saints get knocked out by 49ers, 36-32

Drew Brees overcame five New Orleans turnovers and a 17-point deficit to put the Saints on the brink of their first road playoff victory in franchise history. He could only watch as Alex Smith and the San Francisco 49ers stole it away in the closing seconds, ending the Saints' chances at another Super Bowl run. Brees capped his record-setting season by throwing for 462 yards...

New Orleans Saints, Let’s Make History

Drew Brees breaking Dan Marino’s single season passing record…awesome. The Saints breaking the record for most offensive yards in a season…sweet. Darren Sproles breaking the all-purpose yardage record…gotta love it! This season has been one for the books for the New Orleans Saints. And while all the accolades thus far are just swell, this fan wants to make...

49ers-Saints Preview: Keys to the 49ers defensive success

DEFENSIVE KEYS 1-TRAP BREES: Sacking quarterback Drew Brees is optimal, but the 49ers seem more intent on trapping him in the pocket. Brees is only six feet tall, but he's able to see the field by stepping up in the pocket and no one sees the whole field as well as he does. The 49ers plan to rush...

San Fran No Treat

Allow Drew Brees to describe what the Giants’ offense will be up against in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game at Candlestick Park. “They’re a big, tough, physical team that comes up and hits you,” Brees said after the 49ers blew up his season. “They thrive on that. They can stop the run, rush the passer and then when you catch the ball, they’re going to light you up and...

San Francisco 49ers KO Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints

Alex Smith's 14-yard TD pass to Vernon Davis wins it in final seconds

The NFC Championship will go through the 49ers

Good riddance to the New Orleans Saints. Don't let the door hit your a** on the way out. If the NY Giants can pull off a great upset today and beat the Packers, it really should not matter who the Giants would face the following week. You play whoever is in your path. With that said, there was not a single Giants fan who wanted to see the team have to go through that bleeping...

Peter King: Niners look to oust Brees with patience, planning

Beating Drew Brees and the Saints requires brains as much as brawn. The Niners plan to use both in their division-round playoff showdown with New Orleans, writes Peter King.

Alex Smith out-duels Drew Brees in 49ers’ new coronation

Many will take the Vernon Davis touchdown catch from Alex Smith with 14 seconds left in the San Francisco 49ers' divisional round win over the New Orleans Saints and compare it to "The Catch," the pass from Joe Montana to Dwight Clark that happened 30 years and a few days ago and started the Bill Walsh 49ers dynasty by propelling the franchise to its first Super Bowl...

Who’s Got It Better

The 49ers showed they belong in the conversation with the best teams in the league with a thrilling 36-32 victory yesterday. Some might even call the game a shootout, which barely anyone would expect the 49ers to be able to even manage, let alone pull out a victory against New Orleans. The Saints have one of the highest powered, explosive offenses the NFL has ever seen. Quarterback...

Ouster Of Brees And Rodgers Looms Ominously For Brady

Congratulations, Tom Brady! You just knocked Tim Tebow out of the playoffs and saved us an additional week of soft focus Rick Reilly columns about how Tebow is a good quarterback but an even BETTER human being. That's the good news. The bad news is that you are the last man standing when it comes to elite QBs carrying lousy defenses. There were three teams in the divisional...
