Would the New Orleans Saints first hall of famer, Rickey Jackson, really sell off the jacket he earned in 2010 during his Canton induction? It seems that way. An eBay listing, for what is said to be Jackson’s coat, is live via the Fiterman Sports Group. Jackson, spotted by TMZ cameras at Super Bowl XLVI, seemed to be quite proud of his HOF jacket.

Five months later it’s for sale with a Buy It Now set at $6,000. As many HOFers claim, the jacket is priceless.

According to the listing:

This jacket is one of a kind and is the actual jacket given to the New Orleans Saints great Rickey Jackson for his enshrinement to the NFL Hall of Fame on August 7, 2010.

He is the first & only member of the Hall of Fame to be inducted from the New Orelans Saints.

This is currently only the second NFL Hall of Fame jacket EVER sold!!

90-year-old Charley Trippi’s HOF jacket was sold in April for $2,600. But there is a catch to how the world of HOF jackets works. Members can pay to get a replacement. That’s exactly what Trippi did in 1999 before selling his original, according to a 2010 Canton Repository story. In that same story, Joe Horrigan, vice president of communications/exhibits at the hall, said “enshrinees aren’t billed for replacement jackets.”

So that brings us back to Jackson who just received his jacket in 2010. Is the eBay jacket original, which would be quite embarrassing to the Saints organization? Or is it a freebie that Jackson got from the HOF and turned over to a collector? Would a broke HOFer run an “I grew out of my old jacket” scam?

Is Rickey just getting fat, decided to get a new coat and threw out the old one to a collector?

All we know about buying & selling HOF jackets is to proceed with caution. You’ve been warned.
