Linebacker Victor Butler joined the Saints in practice for the first time since tearing his ACL back in June. But according to Butler, he understands he has a long way to go before he can think of playing again, per ESPN’s Mike Triplett.
“It was fun. I was super limited, but just to get out there and get in the linebacker individuals and feel like you’re a part of a team again, it felt real good.”
Butler has missed the entirety of his fifth NFL season, after spending the first four with the Dallas Cowboys. It’s considered unlikely that Butler will be able to return this season. However, the Saints have held off putting Butler on the season-ending injured reserve list just yet.
It seems like an emotional victory for Butler at this point, but if he makes great strides in practice, it’s conceivable the Saints are holding out hope he could be available later.
