As you know sickeningly well by now I'm a big fan of Pro Football Focus and the grading that they do. It offers a unique look into how the players stack up against each other across the league. In this first segment of two we'll look at how the offense did this year. In case you are curious about my same write up last season, since I do this every year, you can check it out here. Here's how the Saints' offensive players fared in 2012: QB - Drew Brees finished the year rated the 4th best quarterback in the league, despite what most of us would deem a down year. That's not quite 1st place, which is what he had last year, but still a very solid showing. Only Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady graded higher. I'm sure you've heard of those guys before. WR -  The best graded receiver was Lance Moore with a 12.8 rating, good for 17th best overall. Devery Henderson rated a woeful 104th out of 105 graded receivers. Joe Morgan rated 43rd and ...

Roger Goodell won’t give Saints their second round pick back

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was asked if the New Orleans Saints will get their 2013 second round pick back since some of the penalties from the Saints’ bounty scandal have been reduced. “No, the penalty will continue to include the 2nd round draft choice in 2013,” replied Goodell, per the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Now Saints fans have another reason to hate Goodell. ...

Let bygones be bygones: Saints, Brees ready to move on

Theodore Roosevelt said “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” Drew Brees and the New Orléans Saints did just that in 2012. All the pieces weren’t in place, and after stumbling out the gate, a late-season push would shoot the Saints back up the rankings leaving them with a glimpse of respect. Now that head coach Sean Payton is back, it’s time to let bygones...

Unsurprisingly, Roger Goodell Is Not Welcome At A Handful Of New Orleans Restaurants

With Super Bowl week in full swing, a handful of New Orleans restaurants have made slight modifications to their “No shirt, No shoes, No Service” policies by adding “Roger Goodell” to the list of unwelcome items. The NFL commissioner is loathed more in the Big Easy than perhaps any other NFL city, almost entirely due to his handling (and subsequent fumble) of the Bountygate...

Sean Payton had a great time at the Playboy Super Bowl party

How does one celebrate a new contract? If you’re New Orleans Saints’ head coach Sean Payton you do what I would do and head to the Playboy Super Bowl party. (If I actually got invited) Looks like he even took time away from the dance floor and helped stuff some goodie bags for the Crown Royal Heroes Project. Jimmy Graham says his recovery is going well

New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham underwent wrist surgery this month and immediately started rehab and says ”everything’s going well” as he continues to recover. Graham was asked if he’s spoken to Saints head coach Sean Payton now that he’s been reinstated. “I haven’t talked to him yet, I was going to go by his office today, been very busy as you can see,...

Speech Won’t Erase Grudges Against Roger Goodell In New Orleans

Roger Goodell, commissioner of the National Football League, arrived in a hostile territory, took the stage and stood his ground. He’s not a likable person, at least not in New Orleans. He’s not welcomed in a town, where fans have a grudge against the commish. He likes the city and its fans as well — and they don’t like him. The people of these festive, active streets aren’t...

Goodell talks about ending bounties

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says his biggest regret about the New Orleans Saints' bounty scandal is that he can't get everyone to recognize bounties need to be eliminated from the game. Goodell said he hasn't been able to make the point clearly enough with the players' union and others that the league will not tolerate pay for hard hits. He said the league, coaches...

Having spent three days in the Big Easy, I had first-hand...

Having spent three days in the Big Easy, I had first-hand evidence of the fact that Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees is undoubtedly the mayor of that town and will be the King of Carnival 100’s of years from now. With all the madness that is Super Bowl week, any company lucky enough to have a guy of his stature in that town this week should consider themselves, not lucky, but savy...

NFL Commisioner Roger Goodell Expresses Regrets About Bounty Scandal

During his state of the union address on Thursday, in the city where his controversial decision-making process made him public enemy No. 1, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was asked if he had any regrets about how he handled the New Orleans Saints bounty investigation. Before he replied, Goodell chose to clarify one especially strong belief. "Well, let me just let me take...
