Ok this isn't an April Fool's joke, I promise. The Saints signed their backup quarterback and it'll be Luke McCown out of Louisiana Tech. Of course that doesn't rule out the team bringing in a young understudy or even a veteran, but at this point I picture McCown being the #2 this year with an undrafted quarterback likely being on the practice squad. That link above also confirms the signing of DE Kenyon Coleman which was originally rumored late last week. The Saints know McCown well as he spent all of training camp and most of preseason with the team last year. He performed pretty well in my opinion and looked about even with Chase Daniel, honestly. Statisically it may not show that, but he was decent going 9 of 16 in limited reps for 86 yards. I did feel he completely outperformed Sean Canfield, but the Saints elected to keep the youngster over McCown likely because he represented more of a project at the time. McCown threw the ball well in training camp, had pretty good command of the offense, and was limited by playing with mostly rookies. McCown was the backup of Matt Ryan last year as the Falcons picked him up once the Saints released him. I have zero doubt McCown was in part picked up to give the Falcons some intel on the Saints' offense, and now hopefully McCown can repay the favor and give the Saints some valuable information on their hated rival's offense. The 10 year veteran has 9 career touchdowns and 14 career interceptions. Welcome back Luke! With Chase gone this will be a much bigger opportunity for you to land on the 53 man roster.

Saints add Luke McCown, Kenyon Coleman

The New Orleans Saints signed free agent quarterback Luke McCown and defensive end Kenyon Coleman. McCown was on the Falcons’ roster in 2012, and the 33 year-old Coleman was with the Cowboys for the past couple of years.  Both players give the Saints some much needed depth.       Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('...

Saints Nation: When Are the Saints Going to Trade Chris Ivory?

I started out by writing a post called "when are the Saints going to trade Ingram", but after thinking about it there is no way they will trade Ingram. The main reason is the Saints RB's are very talented but injury prone. Sure RB is a position that has injury written all over it, but there is no RB on the roster that has not dealt with an Injury. Ingram being the youngest...

2013 NFL Draft Team Needs: New Orleans Saints Edition

The New Orleans Saints didn’t do a ton on the open market, but the team is slightly better off—if anything—after about three weeks of 2013 NFL Free Agency and looks to be in better shape than at least half of the teams around the league at the start of April.  Let’s examine the Saints’ updated team needs heading into the 2013 NFL Draft (in no particular order). Saints Trade for Roddey White; Cut Marques Colston?

This must be a sports blogger's idea of an April Fool's Day prank. There just isn't any other explanation. If it isn't I can't find anything to back up the story so this guy must have one heck of an inside source if it is true. According to a story on Saints Nation, the New Orleans Saints have traded two draft picks (a third rounder this year and a second round...
