Found August 27, 2012 on The Saints Nation:
The Saints trimmed their roster down to the league mandated 75 today by releasing 15 players from their previous 90 man roster. The players are:

TE Jake Byrne
WR Marques Clark
T Hutch Eckerson
G Paul Fenaroli
C Brian Folkerts
WR Kevin Hardy
CB Kamaal McIlwain
DT Swanson Miller
WR Derek Moye
CB Cord Parks
DE Donavan Robinson
LB Aaron Tevis
S Johnny Thomas
DT Remi Ayodele
QB Luke McCown

The biggest surprise is Remi Ayodele. I had a feeling based on how far down the depth chart he was this could be coming, but I am a little surprised he didn't at least last till final cuts. Ayodele was brought back to the Saints this offseason after being a starter on the 2009 Super Bowl Champion team. He had spent 2010 with the Minnesota Vikings. As two of my followers (Bill L. and skooks both) pointed out, the emergence of rookie DT Akiem Hicks has made him expendable. That's a very good sign.

I predicted 10 of the 15 cuts correctly, with these 5 guys surviving that I had gone: TE Derek Schouman, DE Alex Daniels, T Aderrious Simmons, CB Nick Hixson, S Jerico Nelson. Those 5 are still longshots to be on the final 53 man roster.

Saints release Ayodele, McCown

The Saints reduced their roster by 15 to reach the roster limit of 75 players by 4 p.m. ET Monday. The transactions included termination of the contracts for vested veteran defensive tackle Remi Ayodele, a sixth-year pro who won a Super Bowl ring with the Saints, and ninth-year quarterback Luke McCown. The following players were waived: linebacker Aaron Tevis, center Brian Folkerts...

Saints, Jimmy Graham not close to getting an extension done

Getty According to Jason La Canfora of, the New Orleans Saints and tight end Jimmy Graham aren’t close to getting a contract extension completed. With Gates well into his extension and Gronk and Hernandez locked up,market is set for Jimmy Graham, but nothing is close w/him and Saints — Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) August 27, 2012 Graham has emerged as one...

Will Drew Brees be the same without Sean Payton on the sidelines?

Will Drew Brees be the same without Sean Payton on the sidelines? Rizzla: Yes, Drew Brees will be the same. I do not expect him to have the best passing season in NFL history once again but Brees will not miss a step with Payton not on the sidelines this year. Brees helped Payton create the offense and the interim head coaches have pledged to keep the status quo. In addition offensive...

Could the New Orleans Saints Season Opener be disrupted by another Tropical System?

The New Orleans Saints have undergone one of the most chaotic offseasons of any NFL franchise this season with the Bountygate scandal and having been slapped with multiple suspensions. The Saints and the New Orleans area have been able to rebound after Hurricane Katrina but a new tropical system, Tropical Storm Isaac, seems to be looming on the horizon for the region, with every...

Well-traveled Saints practice in Cincinnati sun

The New Orleans Saints practiced downtown on a sunny, 87-degree afternoon Tuesday, their minds not far from what was going on back home. The Saints (No. 9 in the AP Pro32) fled New Orleans on Monday with Hurricane Isaac building in the Gulf. The Bengals gave permission for them to practice on their grass field across the street from Paul Brown Stadium on Tuesday afternoon, after...

New Orleans Saints adjusting schedule for potential Hurricane Isaac

The New Orleans Saints are well aware of hurricane season and what that means when you live around the Gulf of Mexico region. It is appearing more and more likely that soon-to-be Hurricane Isaac is going to have some impact on the Louisiana region within days, and the team is adjusting their schedule accordingly. The New Orleans Saints are preparing for a possible early exit from...

2012 New Orleans Saints Preview

Two stories have dominated the Saints’ summer headlines. The word bounty has taken on negative connotations, stirring up images of Kurt Warner and Brett Favre to name a few, lying face down on the field, have been rocked by a New Orleans’ defender, looking to make a few extra bucks. Gregg Williams, and to an extent depending on your point of view Sean Payton, have begrudged...

The Pogs: New Orleans Edition

NEW ORLEANS – The third pre-season game against the perennial NFC power New Orleans Saints featured the starters through the entire first half.  It was a matchup that most considered a major test for the Texans’ pass rush and secondary.  However, prior to the game, Wade Phillips made it known there would be no blitzing and the defense would operate in its base “vanilla”...

Saints edge Texans in preseason tilt

Matt Schaub and Drew Brees look ready as ever for the games that will count. The defenses they picked apart might feel differently about the work they have left to do in a short couple weeks. The star quarterbacks for Houston and New Orleans combined for 373 yards passing in a high-scoring first half, and Joseph Morgan's touchdown catch late in the fourth quarter lifted the...

2012 NFL Preseason Scouting: NFC South

With the New Orleans Saints hamstrung as a result of the Bounty-gate scandal, they’re no longer the overwhelming favorites to win the NFC South. Sure, they have the offensive firepower to beat anyone in the league, but will their defense be able to hold up their end of the bargain? The young Carolina Panthers appear ready to make a run at the Saints, and the Atlanta Falcons head...
