The expectation is that the Saints are adding to their tight end room. It was reported by Ian Rapoport that Chris Herndon IV is expected to sign with the Saints in the midst of training camp. New Orleans is looking to add to a tight end group that is a position of need.

Herndon will make his way to his third NFL team with prior stops with the New York Jets and the Minnesota Vikings. In 2018 with the Jets, Herndon caught 39 passes for 502 yards and four touchdowns. The former fourth-round pick out of Miami had a successful rookie year. He and fellow rookie Sam Darnold were the leaders of the Jets offense in 2018.

Herndon began the 2019 season suspended for a personal conduct policy violation. He also suffered a hamstring injury during that season. His 2019 season came with only one appearance and in that game he suffered a fractured rib. Herndon’s 2019 season was a disappointing one to say the least.

His struggles continued in 2020 as he totaled just 287 receiving yards. After the 2020 season, Herndon was hipped to the Vikings in 2021. The Vikings were looking to fill the gap that Irv Smith Jr. left. Smith Jr.  was dealing with an injury that cut his season short. In 2021 with the Vikings, Herndon hauled four passes for 40 yards.

Herndon will look to join the Saints’ tight end group that features Adam Trautman, Taysom Hill and Juwan Johnson.
