The San Diego Chargers added another running back to their roster on Friday with the signing of free agent RB Jackie Battle. Battle has spent his entire career with the Kansas City Chiefs but was not brought back after the Chiefs added RB Peyton Hillis in free agency. Battle is the third veteran running back to join the Chargers roster this season, after the franchise inked veteran RB Ronnie Brown and Le’Ron McClain earlier this offseason.
Battle will now likely compete with Brown for the back up position on the Chargers roster behind Ryan Mathews.
Battle is known as a powerful runner who excels on special teams. He posted career highs last season with 597 yards on 149 carries as he was thrust into a starting role with the Chiefs due to injuries at the running back position. Battle has accumulated 715 yards in his four-year career.
