Photo Credit: Chargers.com The San Diego Chargers bolted up in shocking fashion from the 28th overall pick to select running back Ryan Mathews with the 12th selection in the 2010 NFL Draft. The 6-0, 218-pound tailback comes off a relatively strong second season, rushing for 1,091 yards and six scores on 222 carries (4.9 YPC) and collecting 50 catches for 455 yards through the air. However, his overall performance through two seasons has fallen short of expectations and his inability to stay healthy for an entire year is causing questions and concerns to continue to surface. That hasn’t stopped head coach Norv Turner from getting out his eight ball.  Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Turner expects Mathews to have a “breakout, big-time year” in 2012.  That’s far from a jaw-dropping projection, considering many players enter a breakout season in their third year in the league.
