Norv Turner spoke yesterday about his San Diego Chargers losing to the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday by a score of 27-3.

“We’ve got to take care of the ball,” Turner said. “We can’t turn the ball over.  If we turn the football over then we’re not going to beat a team like Atlanta."

I notice that when NFL head coaches discuss ways for the team to improve, the first go-to, primed and ready declaration, is that turnovers must be reduced. It's kind of like saying "The team who scores more points, will likely win the game." As in, "Thank you, Captain Obvious."

Turner reiterates its importance by adding, "And that’s got to be our primary goal as we go into our next football game…"

Continue, please, Mr. Turner. Share with us your never before heard words of wisdom. What else do the San Diego Chargers need to do, unlike the other 31 NFL teams? What is thy secret, O master?

"The two other issues in this game that we have worked hard on and will continue to work hard on, and we spent a lot of time looking at it this morning, is our ability to protect the quarterback and our ability to pressure the quarterback."

So, what you're saying is that if the other team's quarterback is unable to complete passes, gain yards, sustain drives and score points, the other team will lose?

AND...If our team's quarterback IS able to do those things, then we can win?

But what proof do you have of such outrageous madness? Tell us, Coach Turner!

"Obviously in the first two games we were able to pressure the quarterback and in this game we weren’t."  Obviously.

Final thoughts? Last bits of wisdom before setting this madness into action, Coach?

"We have to get better at protecting the quarterback.”

Shhh! Don't tell anyone!
