Monday night’s NFC west divisional showdown saw the San Francisco 49ers go into the University of Phoenix Stadium and completely dismantle the Arizona Cardinals 24-3. The 49ers, on their part, controlled the entire aspect of the game on both offense and defense. They looked as crisp and precise as they have all year, and they dictated the action on nearly every down. The Cardinals on the other hand, appeared to be in complete disarray, reaching for straws and pinning their execution on big plays only. For the 49ers it was a healthy step in the right direction, now at 6-2 on the season they are becoming more aware of the playing style that allows them to be successful. The Cardinals, after winning their first four games, have now dropped their last four games, and are in serious jeopardy of losing grasp on their season. The 49ers offense was the epitome of efficiency on Monday night, rushing 29 times for 113 yards and passing 19 times for 232 yards. Quarterback Alex Smith was as go...

Jim Harbaugh on Alex Smith doubters: It’s just a lot of gobble, gobble, turkey

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh is already in the mood for Thanksgiving. He had turkey on the brain following a dominating 24-3 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Monday night, but it had more to do with his quarterback carving up a defense than someone carving a bird. It was a near record setting performance by Alex Smith on Monday Night Football, following a 24-3 victory for his San Francisco 49ers against the Arizona Cardinals. 49ers avoid slippage after turnaround season

The San Francisco 49ers are bucking a trend. Most teams that go from having losing records one year to posting 10 or more wins the next year typically fall back to 9-7 or worse in the third year of the cycle. According to the Pro Football Post's Joe Fortenbaugh, 29 teams have gone from a sub-.500 record to an above-.500 record over the past 10 years. In 26 of those cases...

49ers crush Cards, set sights on bigger prize

GLENDALE, Ariz. There was a cute little storyline making the NFL rounds the past few weeks. The much picked-upon, oft-mocked NFC West had grown a hard-hitting, defensive identity, with four teams ranked among the leagues top nine in total defense heading into the eighth week of the season. Leave it to 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh to toss a wet blanket on that hype. I dont know if...
