San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers used their smashmouth style of play, capitalized on Miami mistakes, and treated their fans to a 27-13 home victory in Candlestick Park. It was a close game through most of the first half, but in the second half the Niners pulled away. The dagger was a Colin Kaepernick 50 yard scamper up the sideline on a read option play that had the Dolphins completely fooled. So what do we take from this game? Here are 5 things we can cling to.1. Aldon Smith is the best pass rusher in football !!Defensive end Aldon Smith is simply a beast!! He was punishing rookie Left Tackle Jonathan Martin all game. Smith recorded two sacks overall in the game. His first sack was definitely a game highlight as he completely knocked over young Martin en route to Ryan Tannehill. That will be one of Aldon Smith's personal favorites in his sack collection for a long time. His second sack of the game gave him 19.5 sacks for the season which is a new San Francisco team record with 3 more ga...

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith hit the record books Sunday. His first sack against the Miami Dolphins set the 49ers all time sacks record (formerly occupied by Hall of Fame DE Fred Dean). Then he had one more sack. Aldon leads the NFL with 19 1/2 sacks on the season. I also puts him 3 1/2 sacks behind former New York Giants DE Michael Strahan NFL record for most...
Even though 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman caught a fair amount of flak for QB Colin Kaepernicks ill-fated option pitch to Ted Ginn that was recovered for a TD by the Rams in St. Louis overtime victory in Week 13, we keep hearing Roman's name mentioned as a possible head-coaching candidate. Some close observers have been wondering out loud whether there might be a...
The San Francisco 49ers have been darlings of the NFC since they benched started Alex Smith in favor of second-year passer Colin Kaepernick. Despite a loss to St Louis, Kaepenick has looked strong both passing and running the ball and has inspired the 49ers' offense. And of course the defense is just as good, if not better, as last year. For a team that just barely missed going...
As the San Francisco 49ers prepare for a dogfight in these last 3 weeks to determine just where they will fit in the NFC playoff picture, OLB Aldon Smith will be in a battle of his own. Smith enters Week 15 just 3.5 sacks short of setting the NFL record for sacks in a season.
Michael Strahan currently holds the record for most sacks in a season with 22.5, a record he set in 2001...
Aldon Smith's sack of Ryan Tannehill at the beginning of the second quarter gave him 18 ½ overall and put him in first place on the 49ers' single-season sack list. Smith had been in a tie with Hall-of-Fame defensive end Fred Dean, who had 17 ½ sacks in 1983.
Smith now is four and a half sacks from overtaking ex-New York Giant defensive end Michael Strahan for the NFL...

The season is ending and NFL Most Valuable Player talks have started to heat up. Peyton Manning and Tom Brady have had their names bantered about as usual. Adrian Peterson also has had his name thrown into the mix. It seems that whenever the MVP talks come up, offensive players get all the attention. The old football adage however is, " offense wins games, defense wins championships...
The 49ers improved to 9-3-1 and still keep distance ahead of Seattle and the No.2 seed. However if the offense doesn’t get together and be more consistent, it will be hard to keep that No.2 spot, let alone win the West.
Colin Kaepernick finished the day 18 of 23 for 183 and no touchdowns or interceptions. It was very Alexesque, that is until he scored a touchdown on a 50 yard run...
SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco 49ers were clinging to a 20-13 lead late in the fourth quarter Sunday against Miami when they called a read-option run, a play quarterback Colin Kaepernick could run in his sleep. Kaepernick, who rushed for 4,112 yards and 59 touchdowns in college for Nevada, faked a handoff on third-and-five to running back Frank Gore, pulled the ball back and...
Which way does the thumb turn for the 49ers after their 27-13 win over the Miami Dolphins, including a late exclamation point by “Mr. Everything,” LaMichael James looking like the roadrunner, Aldon Smith’s overpowering bull rush, C.J. Spillman’s great awareness, a Brooks/Whitner/Willis sandwich hit fumble, a streaking Michael Crabtree, home sweet home in December and much...
Frank Gore made his way through San Francisco's winning locker room and offered a public shoutout to linebacker and NFL sacks leader Aldon Smith.
''Couple more, baby! Couple more, baby!'' Gore hollered.
Gore is taking charge on the 49ers offense, with Smith wreaking havoc on opposing quarterbacks for the defense.
Gore ran for a 1-yard touchdown and reached...
Coming off a painful loss to a division rival, the Miami Dolphins (5-7) must travel cross-country to face one of the NFL's most complete teams in the San Francisco 49ers (8-3-1). Ryan Tannehill leads a struggling offense on the road against the league's No. 2 ranked defense, all while being without his best offensive lineman, Jake Long. Miami's defense faces the multidimensional...
