The San Francisco 49ers have one of the deepest rosters in the NFL. This is something that will be tested pending the outcome of the situation with Ahmad Brooks. To date, the authorities have not charged him with anything. It remains to be seen how league officials will administer any punishment, if any. A particular transaction by the front office will come in handy if Brooks is suspended.
The transaction that I will talk about is resigning Parys Harylson. Prior to his being injured in the 2012 preseason game against the Denver Broncos, he was set to rotate with Aldon Smith at outside linebacker.
Harylson was also the starter the previous year as Smith was a situational pass rusher. The 49ers were able to bring him back by redoing his deal and signing him to a modest one year deal worth only $1.15 million. That is great value for a starting caliber player.
