San Francisco 49ers
Green Bay Packers
With three pre-season games behind them now, the San Francisco 49ers have made their first round of player cuts and are eyeing their season opener against the Green Bay Packers. Thus far the team has looked very efficient and very motivated in their pursuit of a championship for Head Coach Jim Harbaugh. Regardless of whether or not most of the players that see extended playing time in pre-season games are ultimately not the feature player for that position, the 49ers players that have taken the field have played quite well.
The first pre-season game against the Minnesota Vikings saw a 17-6 victory for the San Francisco 49ers. Alex Smith saw limited playing time in favor of Colin Kaepernick and Scott Tolzien, both of whom were very efficient. Reserve running back Anthony Dixon led the running game with 12 carries, and the receiving unit was well rounded as 12 different receivers caught a pass.
Pre-season game two was a losing effort to the Houston Texans 20-9. But there was a...
BEST OF MAXIM
The 49ers' starting lineup is mostly set, but coach Jim Harbaugh has plenty he's looking for his team to accomplish as San Francisco prepares for Thursday night's preseason finale at home against San Diego. The starters aren't expected to play long, but quarterback Alex Smith will start and Harbaugh is looking for the offense to establish a rhythm and execute on...
While he receives a lot of support on Twitter, 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs did admit that some of the hateful comments people send his way are unfortunate.
San Francisco 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs decided he would reveal some of the hate messages he receives on Twitter. The sting of a Super Bowl near miss stuck with linebacker Parys Haralson for months.
He thought about it as he worked out in the offseason and prepared for a new year that brings even greater pressures. And Haralson is hardly the only one on the San Francisco 49ers still bothered by just how close they came to reaching the NFL's showcase event in Jim Harbaugh's first season...

Brian Westbrook exceeded all expectations. An injury prone, undersized back out of ‘Nova? Yeah I’d pass on him too. Selected in the third round by Philadelphia Brian was a projected third-down back. Injuries to Duce Staley and Correll Buckhalter catapulted him into the starting line-up in 2004… And a problem was born. For the next four years Westbrook gave opposing defenses...
A strong performance against reserve defenders in Thursday’s preseason finale against San Diego wasn’t enough to land Josh Johnson a job with the 49ers, who included the veteran quarterback among the list of 21 players released by the team late Friday. The Niners also traded second-year safety Colin Jones to the Carolina Panthers to get the team down to the NFL-mandated 53-player limit.
Aaron Wilson who covers the Baltimore Ravens for the Baltimore Sun is reporting that the 49ers have traded safety/special teams ace Colin Jones to the Panthers for a seventh round draft pick.
Jones was a sixth round pick of the 49ers in the 2011. Jones did not see any playing time at the safety position, he was used primarily on special teams where he became one of the teams aces...
