At 7 AM on Friday morning, San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested on the suspicion of DUI. After a single-car accident, he took a breathalyzer, failed, and was booked into jail. The San Jose Mercury News also reported that marijuana and ‚Äúpills‚ÄĚ were found in Smith‚Äôs car, and he had been booked for possession. It also reports that his BAC was 0.15, nearly twice the legal limit.
But the 49ers had a game today! So the 49ers naturally made the right wrong decision by letting Smith play in their game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Chris Mortensen reports that ‚Äúa consensus‚ÄĚ has been reached regarding 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith, who crashed his car Friday morning, allegedly failed a breathalyzer, and allegedly had pills and weed in his possession at the time of the crash: Smith has a substance-abuse problem and needs treatment. But that treatment won‚Äôt begin until after Smith gets to play in today‚Äôs game against the Colts.

Aldon might as well have started rehab yesterday and avoided the butt whupping that the Colts put on the 49ers. It didn’t take long for either Aldon or the 49ers to get all of his stuff out of the locker room.

The team sent the wrong message by playing Aldon Smith, and I do
not mean this in the ubiquitous wrong message to "the kids/the
fans/his teammates/MADD/advertisers/journalists" sort of way we
always hear debated. The wrong message was sent to the kid who got
behind the wheel of a car drunk instead of calling a cab or a
friend or the NFLPA service. This is not about punishment...

As the 49ers the NFL and linebacker Aldon Smith try to figure out how to proceed after Smith’s recent DUI arrest the outcome could be something other than a suspension.
But it could have the same result.
Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that Smith could enter a rehab facility as soon as this week. Glazer says people close to Smith are pushing him to do it.
Folks if your like me you spent the whole weekend writing letters to newspapers about Aldon SMH’s latest publicity stunt/ DUI arrest. Putting up a .15 BAC and wrapping your car into a tree sounds like a busy night of show-prep for Al Michaels, but also like something you or I would get fired for. Turns out the NFLPA has fought long and hard for DUIs and DWIs to not be suspendable...
